can we all just take a second to appreciate the fact that pyro actually has a voice actor, and thus valve had to pay somebody specifically to mumble barely comprehensible gibberish into a mic?
Well, not exactly; pyro has the same voice actor as spy, one Dennis Bateman. So they pay him to switch back and forth between mumbling and la belle français.

Oh, alright, it’s one of those “I don’t like how other people use it” things.
Of course, I agree that W+M1 pyroing is lame and doomed to failure. But that’s about it; any disadvantages have countermeasures that can be put into play. You can reenable your extinguishing powers by using the Manmelter. You can’t break up an uber, so get your engineer to use the Pomson to kill the medic’s charge.
I don’t see the problem with the Mmmph bar. The entire game is built around performance-based rewards. The soldier’s backpacks, the demoman’s head-collecting swords, even the general incidence of random crits are based on your ability to score damage and stay alive. I guess it does fill a little fast? 225 damage per the wiki, that’s still at least two kills unless you’re one of those super-pyros who can go heads-up with a heavy and not get shredded to pieces. Used properly, sneaking around the ambush routes and spy-checking, it’s a valid alternative to the usual puff-n-sting tactics, with the added benefit of a total health recharge (provided that spy you thought you killed doesn’t show up to backstab you while you’re taunting.)
The whole idea of “deserved” kills is really interesting to me. Did that scout “deserve” to get a lucky crit with the force-a-nature as I was heading up to the healthkit? Does a sniper “deserve” a headshot when his opponent has a momentary lag spike? In the grand scheme of things, I’ve found these instances tend to balance out. I’ve been as much a beneficiary of luck as anyone else. The Phlogistinator helps put it in perspective by making me a little more of the master of my own destiny. No random crits, and I just noticed that the last nerf gave it a -10% damage penalty. I gotta make my hits count, cut and run when I’m outdrawn, and hit the afterburner at exactly the right moment to bring down the incoming phalanx of enemy forces without letting them catch me defenseless with only a 75% damage resistance. I think that takes at least as much skill as reflecting rockets properly or getting a crit flare shot from across the map.
But I recognize that not everyone has put as much practise into the moonman setup as I have. I’d like to apologize on behalf of every idiot who doesn’t run phlog/melter, every dumbass who thinks he can charge in and get the critboost in the face of a hail of bullets, and all those gits who still think the Sharpened Volcano Fragment is a valid non-medieval melee choice.

As Pyro…

All of my current Pyro loadouts. The first sports the Blazing Reaction skin set, which you should totally use because there is a TON of effort put into this, more than I see in most skin sets. So if it looks cool to you, I wholly recommend downloading it.
The Strange Detonator was bought today, so there’s still 0 kills on it. The Brigade Helm and Axtinguisher were also bought just today when someone used them(plus some other weapons and a Strange Stickybomb Launcher) to buy my Tour of Duty Ticket.
Today has just been a good day.
Update: Because I realized how stupid it was, the SVA has been replaced with the Maul.
A: lol detonator. Tho to be fair, I never really played with it enough to get a feel for the difference from the flaregun. But the idea that a direct hit on a burning opponent is only a mini-crit is kinda offputting, yknow?
B: I’m glad to see you use the Manmelter with your Phlog. Nothing bugs me more than idiot pyros who can’t extinguish their own teammates!
C: Vanilla item sets? Madness. I can’t think of one class where I use nothing but defaults any more.
D: Good call on flipping the SVF. I love the Homewrecker, and so do engie teammates. The Scorch Shot is fun but I wish the knockback was a little more consistent. SVF’s only really good in medieval mode (which is to say, never.)
